Canada’s largest circulation newspaper is looking for an experienced researcher with database skills.
The successful candidate will combine the skills of database analyst and journalist. We are looking for a person who can both help obtain data for newspaper stories and analyze the information.
On the data side, candidates should be proficient in building and querying relational databases and spreadsheets. Must be fully trained on Access and Excel and comfortable programming in SQL. Candidate should also have experience working with statistical programs SPSS or SAS; and mapping software (MapInfo, ArcView).
On the journalist side, candidates should have a track record in figuring out what type of information is available from all levels of government and other sources and in working to obtain that data. The person should have good communications skills. Experience with freedom of information requests is an asset.
