Palm Beach Post opening
The Palm Beach Post has an opening for a News Research Librarian excited about journalism and information. The position is responsible for providing research services to the newsroom, bureaus, and business units. Knowledge of standard reference works, in-depth research services, public records, and current events necessary. MLS and previous news research experience required.
The primary responsibility of the News Research Librarian is to provide daily research and reference service to the newsroom, bureaus, and business units of The Palm Beach Post, La Palma, and the Palm Beach Daily News, which includes attendance at news meetings
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Online and traditional research and reference
- Stay abreast of new research, public records sources, and technologies, and confer with library director about them
- End-user training on specific topics and staff orientation
- Become active member of appropriate professional organizations
- Develop and maintain close communication with other library staff members and the newsroom
QUALIFICATIONS
- Master of Library Science
- Previous news research experience
- Online, internet, and traditional research skills
- Knowledge of public records’ use
- Excellent communication and writing skills
- Ability to work independently and prioritize research needs
- Strong computer skills including PC, Macintosh and web knowledge
- Familiarity with word processing, spreadsheet and database programs
- End-user training skills
- Reading and writing knowledge of Spanish a big plus
HOURS
Monday through Friday with some evenings, weekends, and holidays
